Pledge to Support Bridges Oregon Throughout the Year
Pledge to support the work of Bridges Oregon on a regular basis by making a monthly electronic donation direct from your bank or credit union account to Bridges Oregon’s account. Please contact Bridges Oregon for information on how to set up this arrangement. All cash contributions are deductible as an itemized deduction in the year you make the donation, up to a total of 50% of your adjusted gross income. Excess charitable deductions can be carried forward for up to five additional years.
Appreciated Securities
Consider donating stocks that you have held for more than one year and which have appreciated in value. If you donate appreciated stock that you’ve held for more than one year, you pay no capital gains tax on the transaction and are entitled to a charitable donation deduction for the full fair market value of the stock.
It is important that you discuss any gifts with your financial advisor.
Gifts of Real Estate
If you own property that is not subject to a mortgage and has appreciated in value, a charitable gift may be an attractive option. You can claim an income tax deduction based on the fair market value of the property, avoid all capital gains taxes and remove that asset from your taxable estate. Or, you can transfer your home or farm to Bridges Oregon now and continue to use the property for the rest of your life. Due to the complexities involved, we encourage you to discuss any gift of real estate with your financial advisor.
Bequest from Your Will
Including the Bridges Oregon in your will or trust is a meaningful way to help us continue to serve the community in need. Many of our programs and services have benefitted from individuals who had the foresight to include Bridges Oregon in their estate plans.
Retirement Assets
Retirement assets are one of the most beneficial gifts you can give to Bridges Oregon. These funds grow tax-free until the time of withdrawal. With the innovative use of these assets, you are able to contribute generously to the Bridges Oregon as well as provide for your loved ones. Many taxes on these plans can be avoided or reduced through a carefully planned charitable gift.
Life Insurance
Life insurance is often overlooked as an asset that you can use to make gifts to Bridges Oregon. There are a number of ways to support Bridges Oregon’s many programs with an insurance-related gift.
Charitable Remainder Trust
A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) is a life-income arrangement that provides you and/or other beneficiaries with a stream of income for life or for a period of years. After the trust terminates, the principal, or “remainder interest,” goes to the Bridges Oregon. Unlike other life-income arrangements, CRTs are separately invested and managed trusts. Please note that Bridges Oregon does not manage these trusts for donors.
Leverage Your Gift with a Corporate Match
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. If your company has such a program, please consider requesting a matching gift from your employer to double the impact of your gift.
If your business or foundation has a connection with GuideStar or Benevity Causes as a part of corporate giving, matching, and volunteer programs. Please contact your business’s Personnel, Human Resources, or Community Relations department to add this organization to make a charitable impact.
